Is this supposed to happen in the latest Steam build?

So I was "intentionally practicing" my dark bear, and then oops- infinite flight!

I think I bumped shift while I was starting my flight, and maybe all the other keys on the keyboard. I wasn't really paying attention anymore...

This isn't even the previous flight bug, as that happened if you started flying when entering the kill screen.

Too bad you didn't have inputs on screen so we could have figured out if it was something related to keypresses

This would be quite the advancement for Any% tbh

Every run I butcher from here on out, I promise to mash keys at the start of chapter 6 until I unlock the trick xD

I was not able to get an infinite flight, but I did stumble upon an unintended mechanic. To me, this would not be considered a glitch, as it's only replenishing the ability in an unintended way.

I present to you: Double Astral Flight (or DAF for short)

I'm tempted to advocate that replenishing abilities midair is a glitch, and might be so abusable as to make any% glitchless less fun for "laid-back" play, but it's also way too possible to do accidentally and calling it a glitch would absolutely make moderating less fun.

It also works from running state

But I would argue that shouldn't be used in Glitchless to similar reasons as an infinite flight - obviously not intended by devs

I would agree with Ofce on that.

I would personally say nigh anything that isn't the intended way to play should be critically evaluted, discussed and agreed on in the community whether it's a glitch or not. Replenishing Astral flight without touching the ground isn't an intended mechanic.

Perhaps, but as rixls said, it is also something that can be done just by playing and would that disqualify you from a glitchless run?

I think there's a distinction to be made about using abilities in unintended ways and outright glitches. Obviously it's up to the community at large, but I do think it's healthy to have a somewhat level of variation even in glitchless

Germany

I agree that we simply have to make a majority decision on the topic. I would argue though that the section to use the "glitch" is short and the abuse of the effect of the mechanic is easily avoidable. If somebody accidentally triggers it without abusing it, then the run imo can be valid for glitchless. To again emphasize my point though, any unintended behavior as bugs, which are just unused glitches, do not qualify for the intended playable experience except the Dev would announce that the supposed bug is an intended design. Lastly those bugs could be utilized in Any% instead. Should it be useless there for a plethora of better paths, then well not everything always needs a place in speedrunning. Though at that point different glitch categories might become of interest.

Double Astral is pretty fun. You can use ledges too, and they also freeze you in midair (you can cancel that effect by jumping mid flight).

Chair%, 100%, and Possible Future Runs!

Since the major growth this past week, Slack, Zyrumi, and I are going to add some new categories. The community has shown interest in both a 100% and a Chair% categories. We plan to make this happen, but we still need to work out some of the kinks in the rules. (Glitches or no glitches, what counts
