**Useful scripts for practice** (2018/3/17)

Hello everybody,

here are some useful scripts I use for practice. They are used to:

- load practice saves
- switch sv_cheats and full BXT Hud on and off
- determine Armor and Health (using bxt_ch_set_health "value"-command / needs sv_cheats 1)
- noclip (needs sv_cheats 1)
- switch timer on and off
- volume regulation


Those scripts can help you manage your practice more quickly, gather additional information with the BXT Full Hud Display, or try out situations with more or less Health and Armor to make sure your setups are working. They basically all work the same way explained in the first script.

Here are the Practice Saves I use. Find your own weak spots and adjust saves accordingly by typing "save <name>" into console at the specific spot and fill in the <name> in the load list below:

I've had some trouble with the "say " commands queuing up in the console; if you know a solution, pls tell me and I'll update the scripts. This didn't ever cause functional problems for me and shouldn't interfere with the scripts.

// Explanation - Scripted Level Load

The "Scripted Level Load"-Script specifies a practice save that can be loaded with the key for the command "lvlload". You can choose between practice saves switching forth ("lvlchgup") and back ("lvlchgdn") between them. The script tells you what practice save is currently chosen for load without actually loading it. When reaching your wanted practice save, you then load it with the "lvlload" key.

In the first lvl-commandline, the next commandline is the second in the list, but the previous commandline is the last in the list. In the last commandline, the next commandline is the first in the list, and the previous commandline is the 30th in the list. Whatever length your list has, if you want to be able to cycle through quickly without having to scroll back to the beginning, you need to write it like this.

This Script has only two commandlines cycling back and forth ("alias cheats cheats0" or "alias cheats cheats1"). If you want to change bxt_hud_viewangles_anchor or _anchor adjustment for other bxt_hud_ commands, you would need to bracket the two values for x- and y-axis with ""-signs which cannot be executed in a commandline with other commands (because this commandline already has ""-bracketing at start and end). Therefore you need to execute a .cfg with nothing else than the anchor command in it:

I use these different anchors because for normal scriptless runs I want to have it out of sight, but for this practice setup I need it to fit in the row of other bxt_hud_ commands.

This Script works similar to the Scripted Level Load. You first choose whether you want to define your Health or Armor value, or if you want to deactivate the script when choosing "No Health/Armor" with the "Life"-command cycling between the three. When e.g. choosing Health, you start with a standard value of 50 and can change it up ("moreH"-command, here bound to rightarrow) or down ("lessH"-command, here bound to leftarrow) in 5-unit-steps, instantly increasing or decreasing the health and seeing the result in your health display. When you have the desired health, you can e.g. switch to Armor again with the "Life"-command and change Armor in the same way.

The script doesn't cycle back to the beginning when reaching the end for Health or Armor value definition because 1 health or 0 armor and 100 health or 100 armor are usual borders for these values. You could also increase it beyond 100 Health and armor if you like. This Script can only be used when sv_cheats 1 is activated.

This script works like the others. Adjust the values to your liking. It doesn't cycle because you don't want the volume to be at maximum again after just switching it down. Starts at Maximum Volume.

FAQ & Setup Guide - Setting up HL1 for speedrunning

__How to install the latest GoldSrc Package (for Windows)__  
  
Click [HERE](https://forums.sourceruns.org/t/goldsrc-package-2-3/2634) to download the latest GoldSrc Package.  (Scroll down and click Download (latest)) or click [HERE](https://www.dropbox.com/s/7vlrzuna6ob4dxf/Half-Life%202005%20WON.zip?dl=0) to download the 2005 Package.  
The file downloaded will be a .7z or .zip file. You must use a tool such as 7-Zip to extract it. Place the file in a folder that isn't the C:\ drive e.g the Desktop, Documents, or D:\ drive. Then, right click the file and go to 7-Zip > "Extract to GoldSrc Package 2.x.x\\"  
Once this is done, open the new folder that was created and to run the game double-click *Half-Life (WON).bat* for GoldSrc Package or *0. Half-Life (WON) + BXT + RI.bat* for 2005 Package  
If you get any errors, please refer to the FAQ and errors below and if your error is not present, join the SourceRuns discord and ask on the #goldsrc-help channel.  
 **Other, older tutorials suggest making a .bat file yourself. There is no need to do this anymore.**

__FAQ: How do I keep a crosshair throughout Anomalous Materials?__

You must load a save where you have a crosshair, and then press your reset bind. You will keep the crosshair when you start the run. However, if you load a save, the crosshair will disappear. For HL1 this means that you have to do everything until the TC skip single segment (that is, without save/loading).

This tutorial is meant to show you some of the most advanced strategies in the game for implementation in your runs. It doen't cover all the existing advanced strategies yet and as a playlist is open for new clips at any time.

How to setup demo recording

Since rules have changed now and you are required to submit demos even if you record or stream your run, I decided to make this quick guide on how to set everything up so you can have a valid run for the leaderboard.

Recording:
To record a demo from the start of the run use the following start run bind: 
bind <key> "map c1a0;bxt_hud_timer 1;bxt_timer_reset;bxt_timer_start;bxt_autorecord run". 

In the newest version of BXT ( http://goo.gl/Ei6IqY ), bxt_autorecord will automatically record new demos on loads, making the old script for demo recording not required anymore.

To stop the demo at the end of the run make a bind: 
bind <key> "stop" or type in console "stop" after the timer has stopped.
It does not really matter which you choose as when you stop the demo does not affect the verification process, so you could do it long after the game ends if you choose.

Submitting and Uploading:

The demos will be also found in the "valve_WON" folder named as "run_1,run_2, etc"
If for some reason you do not want your run demos to be named "run", you can change the name to whatever you want by changing this command in the start bind: bxt_autorecord <name>. 

Once you have located all the demo files, you can select them all and zip them, from here you have a few options on how you want to upload the zip file. There are many options of file sharing sites that you could use, like mediafire, dropbox, google drive. We will accept any file sharing site we recognize, make sure the link works before you decide to submit your run. Just leave the download link in the comment section of the run. :)

Demos of your latest PB have to be available permanently to the moderators, either online via the download link, or on your local harddrive if the download link expires. For permanent storage online, you usually have to have an account on a platform to ensure your uploads will not be deleted after some time. You can use platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Mediafire.

Reason for rule:
I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be curious about this rule change, so I thought I would quickly explain. With demos being a requirement we can analyze the run submitted more in depth and prevent cheating in the leaderboard. Demos can give us a lot more information then just a video so this rule makes verification more accurate.

NGHL setup guide

This guide will help you set up NGHL so it follows the rules for leaderboard submissions.

For setting up NGHL, you need the Full version.
Make sure you DO NOT install NGHL into your Program Files.
Select these options in the installer: http://imgur.com/a/Et4wH Simplified models are optional, they will help if you can't get consistent framerate.

Next, install the WON Package from http://www.speedrun.com/hl1/resources
Drag the contents from the valve_won folder ( http://imgur.com/a/e1DLB ) into the valve folder located in your NGHL installation directory.

Then, download BunnymodXT from https://github.com/YaLTeR/BunnymodXT/releases (place the injector.exe from https://github.com/YaLTeR/BunnymodXT-Injector/releases in the unpacked "Bunnymod XT" Folder) and RInput from https://bit.ly/2Ys59c3
RInput fixes mouse acceleration issues present in Half-Life.
Place both folders ("Bunnymod XT" and "RInput") inside the NGHL folder: http://imgur.com/a/yMH0R

Finally, make a .bat file for launching the game. Open Notepad, paste the template from http://pastebin.com/scHv7Wnu , then replace "D:\Half-Life\" with path to your NGHL folder. Save it as "Half-Life.bat", make sure to select "All Files" in "Save as type:" http://imgur.com/a/MZGTx

Additional Information:
- Make sure your fps_max is set to 100 in your binds and in WON.cfg. NGHL runs on an older engine, so subtracting 0.5 is not needed.
- Some people are unable to navigate the game menu with mouse when using RInput, if that happens use the arrow keys on the keyboard.
- Installing the simplified models will cause a game crash in Half-Life: Opposing Force (on the map of4a2)

WARNING! Due to the rule changes on 8 February, 2017, cl_pitchdown/up and cl_yawspeed cvars are banned, meaning this trick is also no longer allowed.

Instead of using the Maxam's cl_yawspeed way, I just set cl_pitchdown to 180 and bound mwheeldown to +lookdown (you dont have to do bind +lookdown to mouse wheels, it's same as binding it on any key). It's a lot easier and legit.
This sections has 5 extra binds:
bind y "bind mwheeldown +lookdown"
bind i "bind mwheeldown +duck" (or +jump)
bind [ "cl_pitchdown 89"
bind ] "cl_pitchdown 180"
bind z "force_centerview"
----- Preparation
1. Anythere before, press 'y' and ' ] '.
----- Turn itself 
2. Charge gauss cannon (press right mouse button);
3. Jump;
4. In mid-air scroll your mousewheel down OR press your key with +lookdown bind, if you have;
5. Shoot gauss cannon (release right mouse button);
6. Press z to normalize the view.
----- Afteraction
7. Anythere after, press 'i' and ' [ '.
If you have a key bound to +lookdown, not mousewheel, you don't have to bind ' [ ' , ' ] ' and press them after.

**Test Chamber Skip for scriptless category (TC-Skip)** (2019/4/18)

Hey there,

these are several tutorials how to setup and execute the new Test-Chamber-Skip (TC-Skip) in Chapter: Anomalous Materials. For setting up correctly on the floor, you need the following commands with "key" being keys you need to pick for your convenience:

bind key "fps_max 20" // (Push cart slower and take less fall damage)
bind key "gl_texturemode GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_NEAREST" // (Disable texture filtering aka Pixely)
bind key "gl_texturemode GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR" // (Make it look normal again)

The scriptless TC-Skip was found by ProtoAus, who did the first tutorial for it:

Updated test chamber skip tutorial

**The first thing that you are going to need is a command to make the textures pixelated**
bind f1 "gl_texturemode GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_NEAREST" (Disable texture filtering aka Pixely)

Get in the corner of the cart's fence, find this exact pixel while crouched:
(below the two dark pixels the second one)

Then hold A and jump up from the platform, align your crosshair in this exact position:![](/static/blob/wzxxw5zr.png)
Before the cart arrives (and when pulling the cart) lower fps to 20 (bind "key" "fps_max 20")
 
Pull the cart from the elevator and then push it ***back*** and ***left* as far as you can**

Line up your crosshair with movement into this position:

To make it into the trigger you are aiming for **1800-1900 UPS**

Common mistakes

- Failing the object boost itself
- Only getting up to ~1700 speed means your line-up is incorrect even if you do the object boost perfectly
- Moving your mouse
