The best way to record an Xbox One is using a Capture Card, however if you do not have onem if you have a USB Drive of 32GB in size or larger you can format it as NTFS and plug it into your xbox and then you will be able to record your xbox to the USB however this only records the game and cannot add anything else to your layout.

If you have a Windows 10 Computer of some sort and good internet you can also stream your Xbox's Screen to your pc which allows for higher quality and 60fps and would allow you to make a layout with something like OBS using a window capture

You can also record XBox One gameplay by streaming to directly to Twitch using the Twitch app. This takes all the onus off of you and puts it on Twitch, so as long as you save your past broadcasts there, you can then highlight them to get videos of the runs.

Just an alternative to locally recording everything if you’re looking for a more “out of the box” solution to don runs without purchasing anything additional for your setup.

The best way to record gameplay on an Xbox One is to use the built-in recording features of the console, namely the Xbox Game DVR. Here's how to do it:

1. Xbox Game DVR:

  • Access the Game DVR: While playing a game, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide.
  • Navigate to Capture & Share: Select the "Capture & Share" tab in the Guide.
  • Record Gameplay: Choose the "Record" option. You can record the last 30 seconds, 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes of your gameplay. Select the desired recording duration.
  • Save Your Clips: Your recorded clips are automatically saved in the "Captures" section on your Xbox. You can access and manage them from there.
  • Edit and Share: You can edit your clips, trim them, and share them with friends or on social media directly from your Xbox.

2. External Capture Card (Optional):

If you're looking for more advanced recording options, including longer recording times and higher quality, you can consider using an external capture card. Here's how to set it up:

  • Purchase a Capture Card: Invest in a compatible capture card. Popular options include Elgato, AVerMedia, and Razer Ripsaw.
  • Connect Your Console: Connect your Xbox One to the capture card using an HDMI cable. The capture card will then be connected to your TV or monitor.
  • Connect to a Computer: Connect the capture card to your computer using USB or other connection methods, depending on the capture card model.
  • Install Capture Software: Install the capture card's software on your computer.
  • Start Recording: Follow the software's instructions to start recording your gameplay. This method allows for longer and higher-quality recordings, and it provides more editing and streaming options.

Using the Xbox Game DVR is the simplest and most common method for recording gameplay on Xbox One. If you need more advanced features, including the ability to record longer sessions, consider an external capture card.
